RoChess! Comparison · Updated 2026-10-28
RoChess! and Chess.com, feature by feature
A YouTube title says RoChess! is a copy of Chess.com. A title is an opinion. The table uses published feature lists only.
Side by side
| Topic | RoChess! | Chess.com |
|---|---|---|
| Where it runs | Roblox experience only, in the public record | chess.com website. Apps are their product, not reviewed line by line here. |
| Price to start | Free to join. Two passes for sale; prices not in the 28 Oct list payload. | A membership page exists. Dollar amounts are not copied into this table. |
| People | Rated games, 9 time controls, names of the nine not published | Live chess is the core product on their site. |
| Bots | 19, Beginner to Master | A computer-play page exists at /play/computer. |
| Puzzles | 20,000+ in the current description; older guides say 1,300+ | A puzzles section exists at /puzzles. Count not copied. |
| Review | Game Review plus an analysis board with a live engine. Engine name not official. | An analysis page exists at /analysis. |
| Rating system | Not named. See the Elo note. | Not restated here, because this page did not re-quote their help article. |
| Openings | 3,800+ recognised as you play | Not compared; no paired count was pulled. |
Nothing in that table shows source code was copied. Shared ideas — clocks, puzzles, review — are ordinary chess-product ideas. The entity page says who actually ships RoChess!.
The videos people confuse
Markorange’s “copy” video is one creator’s reaction. A different video, “Making Roblox Players Rage Quit…” by Chess Is Boring, uploaded 23 Oct 2026, shows checkmates in RoChess. Our notes said that second video had the larger view count. I am not swapping those two videos to make the copy claim look bigger.
WorstChess compared a bot they call Vortex with Chess.com’s Maximum bot on 13 Oct 2026. That is a bot clip, documented on bots, not proof of a port.
Video
This game is just a copy of chess.com. Uploaded 2026-10-23T07:28:05-07:00. The player loads only after a click.
Questions
Is RoChess a copy of Chess.com?
One short video says so. The public feature lists overlap in the way most chess products overlap. No source-code comparison is available, so this site does not call it a copy.
Which one is free?
RoChess! is free to join on Roblox, with optional passes. Chess.com has a membership page. Prices for the passes were not in the payload I read on 28 Oct.
Can I use my Chess.com rating?
Nothing in the RoChess description imports an outside rating. The RoChess formula itself is unpublished.
Where do I play RoChess?
On Roblox, from the official experience page.
